Not really much of a cyclist until after my wife passed from cancer, I took up ultra distance riding in 2004. Until then I had never ridden much over 35 miles. In 2004 I had ridden enough to attempt a century and rode my first 100 miler, the Solvang Century that year. After that I was “bitten by the bug” and added many more centuries, as well as 4 double centuries and my first Furnace Creek 508. I was 58 that year. After that I continued my Ultra distance riding and finished Team RAAM in 2006 and 2008 and in 2010 I completed my fifth Furnace Creek 508 (after 7 tries)! In 2005 I rode in the Etape de Tour in France and in my best year, 2006, I rode the HooDoo 500, Team RAAM (4x) and the FC 508. I plan on continuing my Ultra riding with another RAAM this year with a goal of completing five RAAM in total…..maybe more!? As long as I stay healthy, I’ll ride much more!
